Public Outreach
The Finney lab is committed to communicating science with the public.
What is public outreach?

-
Public outreach involves communicating our science beyond academia.
-
This is important so people understand and value science.
-
Public outreach can take many forms including written pieces (posting on social media, blogs, etc), interviews/podcasts, visits (schools, camps, etc), events (science centres, public libraries, university open days).

Finney Lab Commitments

-
Finney lab members (including Dr Finney) contribute to public outreach.
-
We participate through HPI (the Host Parasite Interactions Research Training group).
-
Previous events include: designing a giant board game for a science centre adult only night, creating a puppet show for a public library event, mentoring school children for the Calgary Youth Science Fair, giving talks in schools and during summer camps, writing blog entries, and doing podcast interviews.
Get involved!

-
There are many events you can get involved in, whatever your personality, commitment level and experience.
-
You can look up events/groups in your local area.
-
You are always welcome to contact myself or HPI if you are interested in joining our events.
-
If you are looking for resources, all the HPI materials are freely available QUBES.
